Maurizio Cattelan – Not Afraid of Love – Monnaie de Paris – Paris – October 2016

Another impressive show at the Monnaie de Paris, perfectly integrated in the beautiful building of the Quai de Conti. The show is visually compelling, like the hanging horse in the grand staircase leading up to the exhibition. It is decorative, but also conveys a number of message, confronting a praying Hitler with a reclining pope.

The show is a sort of retrospective for Cattelan, the first show after his Guggenheim exhibition 5 years ago with a selection of works that translate his ability to create awkwardness and fascination, looking at the human being with its contradictions and paradoxes. All to be seen has already been seen and is well known, but the curation gives it a new dimension.

A beautiful show, bravo to La Monnaie!
